Westminster Council Runs Dozens of Weekly Group Exercise Classes
Westminster City Council leisure centres run dozens of weekly group sessions from yoga to circuit training at fixed locations across the borough.
How we reported this
Westminster City Council operates more than 240 group exercise classes each week at its four main leisure sites, with sessions running from 6.30am to 9pm on weekdays.
Interest in these classes has risen sharply since the start of 2025 as residents seek lower-cost alternatives to private studios in central London. Council data shows a 22 per cent increase in bookings at its sites compared with the same period last year, driven by fixed pricing and reliable timetables that do not change with private-sector promotions.
Two of the busiest venues sit on opposite sides of the borough. The Queen Mother Sports Centre on Vauxhall Bridge Road in Pimlico hosts daily spin and body-pump classes in its 25-metre pool hall, while the Marshall Street Leisure Centre off Regent Street in Soho runs high-intensity interval sessions and Pilates in its studio overlooking the original 1850s bathhouse tiles. Both centres fall under the Westminster Active Communities programme, which also schedules outdoor boot camps at Paddington Recreation Ground on weekday evenings.
Timetables and pricing
Adult drop-in rates start at £8.40 for a 45-minute class and £10.20 for 60 minutes, with concessions available for over-60s and students at £5.60. A monthly pass covering unlimited council classes costs £52.50 and can be purchased at any of the four sites or through the council’s online portal. July 2026 timetables list 18 yoga classes and 12 circuits sessions across the two venues alone, with new slots added on Saturdays at Marshall Street from 8 July.
Practical next steps
Residents can check real-time availability and book through the Westminster leisure website or by calling the booking line on 020 7641 2400. First-time visitors are advised to arrive 15 minutes early at the chosen centre to complete a brief health questionnaire before joining a class.
