Camden Council Raises Social Rents 4.8% Starting April 2026
The budget measures will increase weekly rents for social housing tenants from April 2026 while allocating funds for maintenance, damp and mould repairs, and private sector home grants.
How we reported this

Camden Council has agreed the 2026/27 housing budget that raises social rents by 4.8 percent from April 2026. The increase is set at approximately seven pounds per week for a two-bedroom home and is expected to generate between 8.1 and 10.4 million pounds for reinvestment in maintenance and energy efficiency work.
Rent changes and reinvestment plans
Social housing tenants across Camden will face the higher rents from the start of the new financial year. The council states that the additional revenue will support repairs and upgrades to existing homes rather than new construction. Residents in council-managed properties can anticipate these adjustments appearing in their rent statements ahead of April 2026.
The same budget decision follows the council's adoption of Awaab's Law in October 2025. Under that step the council committed an extra three million pounds specifically to tackle damp and mould, with rules requiring social landlords to meet fixed deadlines for addressing serious defects.
Support for private sector homes
Cabinet also approved a five-year Housing Renewal Assistance Policy. This measure expands grants available to owners of private sector homes for work that improves safety and energy efficiency. The policy is intended to extend the same standards applied to social housing into the private rented and owner-occupied sectors.
These steps are projected to affect daily housing costs and property conditions for households in both social and private accommodation. Tenants and homeowners can review the detailed allocations through the council's published cabinet papers and related documents.
Implementation of the rent changes, the additional damp and mould funding, and the grant programme will begin according to the timelines set out in the adopted policies. Further updates on specific grant criteria and repair schedules are expected to be issued by the council in due course.
