Hackney Council Reveals Housing and Regeneration Plans Across Multiple Neighborhoods

Hackney Council officials have reported that the Wimbourne Street housing scheme is nearing completion in spring 2026 with 59 new affordable homes on a previously underused infill site.

Officials have also confirmed approval of plans for 136 new social rent homes across Hoxton and Haggerston on four existing estate sites. Construction is set to begin in spring 2026 with first occupancy projected by late 2028.

Targets and Broader Plans

The council is closing in on its 2026 target of 1,000 social homes in delivery after reaching 956 social rented homes as of July 2025. In March 2026 the council unveiled the Future Shoreditch Area Action Plan to guide growth until 2040 including 500 new homes, 200,000 sq m of office space and 11,000 new jobs. The final phases of the Woodberry Down regeneration masterplan received approval in September 2025.
