Lambeth Council Moves Forward on Brixton Regeneration and Asset Protections: Key Decisions Ahead

Lambeth Council is advancing the Brixton Town Centre regeneration scheme at 49 Brixton Station Road and 6 Canterbury Crescent while Brixton Village and Market Row hold Asset of Community Value status.

Regeneration Scheme Progress

The scheme proposes around 280 new homes with 40 percent affordable alongside workspace and new street market infrastructure. A refreshed agreement between Lambeth Council and London Square supports these elements. Community engagement workshops are scheduled between June and September 2026 ahead of a planning application later this year.

Asset of Community Value Status

Brixton Village and Market Row were formally added to Lambeth Council's Asset of Community Value list in July 2025. This designation grants community groups a legal right to bid to purchase the sites if they come up for sale with six months to submit an offer.

Tree Planting and Road Safety Initiatives

Lambeth Council approved a project valued at £180,000 to plant five semi-mature trees outside Brixton Recreation Ground including permeable paving and sustainable urban drainage. The project remains at the design stage with public consultation previously expected from summer 2025.

These updates follow Lambeth Council's first Full Council meeting in 2025 which addressed Brixton-related items including road safety in Tulse Hill and empty shops in Brixton. Brockwell Lido transferred to new in-house management by Active Lambeth on 1 July 2024. Brockwell Park festivals are set to proceed with six scheduled events confirmed despite a recent legal challenge.
