Brixton Infrastructure Developments This Week Focus on Lido Handover and Regeneration Planning

Brockwell Lido switched to new management on 1 July 2026 when Lambeth Council’s in-house service Active Lambeth assumed responsibility for the 89-year-old facility. The change forms part of wider local infrastructure updates in Brixton this week.

Lido Management Transition

Active Lambeth now operates the lido following the handover. Residents can expect continued public access under council oversight at the established Brixton venue. The transition aligns with the council’s direct delivery of leisure services across the borough.

Regeneration Plans at Station Road and Canterbury Crescent

Lambeth Council is advancing plans to regenerate 49 Brixton Station Road and 6 Canterbury Crescent. The scheme proposes around 280 new homes with 40 percent affordable housing, plus workspace and improved street market infrastructure. Community engagement runs from June to September 2026, with a planning application expected later in 2026.

Brixton Village and Market Row have received official designation as an Asset of Community Value. This status gives the community legal rights to bid for purchase within six months and adds protections against redevelopment.

Tree Planting and Employment Space Projects

A proposed £180,000 scheme to plant five semi-mature trees outside Brixton Recreation Ground remains at the design stage. Most of the budget covers permeable paving and underground sustainable drainage infrastructure. Separately, Lambeth Council is renovating a club building in a Brixton park to lease to youth charity Dwaynamics and will deliver 1,750 square metres of affordable employment space with business support.
